Join us in the Great Yorkshire run!

The SVM Global team will be taking part in the Great Yorkshire run this year on Sunday 27th September, so we can help to raise money for healthcare. We’re extremely excited about this event and hope to encourage even more people to join in the fun for a good cause. The Great Yorkshire run takes place across Sheffield, where our team will be running 10k! In honour of this event, this blog will talk about some of the hottest fitness tips, including advice from our experts!

Callum Mitchell, a member of the SVM Global team, explains that exercise is extremely beneficial to not only his health, but also his work life. He goes on to say, “Generally I go to the gym after work and the exercise helps to relieve any tiredness or stress from the day, allowing me to relax for the rest of the evening and catch up on a good night’s sleep, thus making me alert and ready in the next morning for whatever the day may throw at me!”

The gym is a common choice to increase fitness, but it’s important to keep your eyes open and select a sport that benefits you. If you enjoy the activity, you’re more likely to perform better. At SVM Global, we think health increases employee engagement and we enjoy taking part in different activities, alongside our charity events. For example, we have an SVM running club and also a football team!

Tariq Ali, also a member of the SVM team, talks about his own interest in boxing. He explains, “Boxing is the ultimate challenge. There’s nothing that can compare to testing yourself the way you do every time you step in the ring.”

So, what are our ‘top tips?’ We will end this post with five short and snappy fitness tips. We encourage your feedback, so please do feel free to comment or contribute, if you have your own fitness advice that you’d like to share. See below for the tips.

  1. If you set time aside to do a workout, just do it. Don’t make excuses. Even if it’s only a small workout, it’s better than none.

  2. Don’t be so harsh on yourself! Congratulate yourself on the things you achieve. Remember, you won’t become an expert in a certain sport overnight. Everyone must start somewhere and work their way up. Persistence is key.

  3. Stretch. It’s good practice to stretch before and after a workout to make sure you don’t injure yourself.

  4. Eat for nutrition. If you’re going to train, it’s important that you’re eating the right foods and giving your body the nutrition it needs. Remember, exercise burns calories, so make sure your diet accounts for this.

  5. Don’t always stick to strict goals. Achieve smaller milestones consistently. If you set unrealistic goals, you may find yourself demotivated.
